Pro Tools 12 crashes and crashes...

Hallo there!

I'm a very new user to pro tools in general and now recently purchased the pro tools 12 version. I'm running it on a macbook mid 2012 i5, 8gb Ram and 250gb SSD with a focusrite scarlett 2i2. I never had any problems with my system, but pro tools really crashes from every hour to every few minutes...
I absolutely don't have a clue why and it really makes the software almost unusable, as you have to quick save after every move...

Any suggestions here?

Unfortunately it sounds like a common issue with PT12 as I moved back to PT11 myself because of unusable behavior of PT12. But checking 3rd party plug-ins (A.I.R plugins are not stable from my experience) and updated interface drivers for the scarlet might make PT12 less prone to crashes. But no doubt PT12 needs some serious bug fixing to be done by pro programmers in the audio field..

Well I actually use almost only Slate Digital plug-ins. Also tried to reinstall and this preference delete thing. Nothing. This is a real pity because I tried Cubase und Logic in the last few years and must say after a few weeks that I love the freedom and workflow pro tools gives you.
But it would not be possible to use it in professional way right now, 'cause it could crash every second while recording...

I just upgraded from 11 to 12.2 a few days ago, installed right over 11...no crashes at all. I use all the slate plugins no problem...still have the VCA error when opening a session with VCA's on it, but after the session opens, everything still works the way it should. I am on Yosemite 10.10.5 if that matters

Waves Diamond (edit), Izotope Rx Post Production Suite, AIR, Auto Align, Arc2, Phoenix Surround, Anymix in use. Not a single crash yet with PT12 and I've been working long days.
I know this isn't helping OP and Avid must find a way to get all systems solid. But there are working combinations.

Hope this helps you. I've noticed a pattern going on. Seems like Mac users with 8GB of ram are having a lot of problems with 12.2. I think that could be one of or THE issue.

I have a 2011 MBP with a 2.3 ghz proc, and 8 gigs of ram. PT Vanilla 12.2 is stable on Yosemite 10.4.4 for me, recording and mixing. Oh and I have lots of Waves and Izotope plugs loaded in my sessions.

Hmm. well the problem gets worse the more plug ins I use. But on the other hand my system usage never get's over 50%, so it's not in a range where you should have that much problems...

I only know that some Focusrite products suck on Windows and Protools with what seems to be a patched bloated driver. I know it's plugNplay on a mac. With an i5 and 8 gigs, I would increase the buffer at least. Shut off WiFi, Bluetooth. I'm cranking away on 12.2 with a Mac Mini late 2012 with an i7, and 16 gigs of ram. I'm using Maverick.

12.2 unusable in my system.. mac mini i7 quad with 16 gigs and UA Apollo.
CPU never goes above 25% then all of a sudden spikes.. with an aae cpu error when bouncing. Really not usable.. My computer came with 10.10.4 so can't go back to Mavericks.. as of now I am going to try 11..
