Default HD driver and question answered about compatibility with Blue interfaces.

[edited] I ran into some issues with the newest HD drivers because I had not installed the corresponding Pro Tools version. I'm going to leave the post though in case it helps someone else avoid the same issue.

----------------------------------------------------

I was considering going from 12.5.1 HDX, OS X 10.5.5 to 12.7 while I had projects finished up. I have an Avid i/o and an old blue 192. I decided to install the HD driver first to see if it caused issues. I've always been concerned about "breaking" the 192. I use 8 analog when I need more than 16 (which is rare) and I use 8 AES daily for routing to outboard.

I installed the new 12.7 HD driver and AES on the blue stopped working. I uninstalled it and instead did the 12.6.1 driver and it was still broken. Fortunately I still had the installer for 12.5.1 and installed the HD driver and it fixed the problem.

Honestly, I don't know if this it and I will not be upgrading beyond this point, or the issue was that I put in HD drivers that were beyond the 12.5.1 software. If anyone can confirm they are using AES with HDX and the blue interface, that would be great, but I wanted to let people know my experience and possibly save them some hassle. I know a lot of people are still using those interfaces.

You must have DigiLink I/O asset in your iLok account in order to use ANY Avid interface incl. the blue ones.

That's a new thing started with 12.6. AFAIR.

Check with support if you're eligible for free asset otherwise it's one time payment for all interfaces you have and costs $299 in Avid store

Yes, I have it. And everything worked but the digital I/o on the blue.

Check your i/o setting. Mine was completely hosed when I first got in touch with new HD drivers. I had to reassigned everything from the scratch and then all was all right with my Blue interfaces including AES i/o on HD 192.

Well they were grayed out. I guess I'd love some confirmation that digital I/o still works on 12.7. I know they had to a complete rewrite and since the blues are no longer supported, it might have disabled them. Not intentionally, but at some point I assume they will stop working with the latest software, either Avid or Apple. If I were prudent I'd just freeze the system but I enjoy knowing how to use the latest features.

You'll get the same answer from Avid or other end users as I am that Blue interfaces are fully supported in 12.7. Of course, I'm fully aware that the day of complete EOL will come but nobody know when. When this happens, I'll just buy grey, green, yellow or whatever color it'd be.

Thanks. Possibly it didn't work because I hadn't actually done the 12.7 update.

I'd suggest you to rename the subject of your thread or to add "solved" as this could be misleading to DUCers.

New HD drivers work only with 12.6.1 and later.

Cheers! :)

I'm happy to delete the thread entirely if it causes problems, but for now I edited it so others don't make the same mistake I did.
