Using a LE rig for a audio field recorder for video prod.
I'm producing a small student film. I would like to use my LE rig as a audio field recorder. Is it possible to sync timecode for a LE system and a Panasonic HVX200. If not, how could i pull this off.

I don't know much about timecode, but I'm pretty sure the only way to get it for LE is with the DV toolkit. There are a couple plugins included too, but it costs like $1300..
dv toolkit

You might try a solution I use when videotaping with two cameras not sync'ed to TC -
I use a LOUD verbal countdown followed by a handclap. Both the videos' audio track and PT should give you a clear marker of when and where to sync the audio to the video. Be sure to log the video TC and note the same with the PT clips.

Be sure to check the specs and requirements for DV toolkit, you don't say what your setup is. I'm not sure the advertised "timecode features" of the toolkit are going to give you what you're looking for, anyways.
For advanced techniques without the DV toolkit check here http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?...0&itemid=14866 I favor a manual visual/audio method, as suggested, (the handclap is similar to a film clapper). It's quick and easy, especially for shorter takes. Recording at 48k ensures you'll match the video editing standard without conversion, so I recommend that, as well. MR

To do this properly (in sync), you should check out the Tascam HD-P2 which is the most affordable CF recorder that can input TC from a camera. If portability and ruggedness are not a concern and you really want to use a laptop, check out Boom Recorder software.

Re: Using a LE rig for a audio field recorder for video prod
well if your not using timecode to keep the audio synced with the film(scratch audio) vocalign will help you line the scratch vocal to the audio recorded elsewhere.i do videos and sync the pre recorded audio to the film this way, trust me its a time saver. just a suggestion though
