One of PT's strengths has always been it's familiarity - why mess with alternate looks which can only confuse. Plenty of other options out there isf that's what floats your boat
and when they add folders it will just be even better.

My second favourite was logic 9 before they fudged it.. again everything was clear and articulated.

My least favourite are studio one and reaper with any skin.. (i tried over 20 of them, it's the way the highlight and drag and other things work, and plug in menu look etc that sucks).. S1 is downright unusable to me and borderline gives me fits.

Logic X isn't too bad but it can still get a bit confusing.

Reason is decent gui wise, as is tracktion/waveform (basically T8).

well then yes, my point exactly.. go to a skin able daw.. i would guess this is on avid's lowest possible list.

Out of curiosity though, shouldn't PT be skin able on mac at least, using the hack method for the tons of logic X skins that are out there? Or does it process it's graphics differently? With logic what the skinners basically do is have folders with all different pic files in them that replace the stock ones.. they work absolutely fine without crashes (no more than the standard skin lol).. i just wonder if that could be done with PT is all.

Consider that Avid has enough issues getting the core program to work as it should is what I'm saying.

Darryl had it right; and to add to that is what I wrote earlier - there's always Digital Performer. Less expensive than PT, no yearly tax (aka free updates for all), one version that does everything, excellent functionality for scoring to picture, free support that lets you talk to a real human and a biggie: No DONGLE
ok i just have to jump in here..

PT works out cheaper here than DP. I pay $99 a year. so that would mean it would take 4 years before we are at DP's crossgrade price, let alone retail.

It's 200 bucks to upgrade DP versions every say, 2 or 3 years?

and my license is perpetual.. i can cancel PT sub any time and always get to use 12

Basically, the 200 to update DP is 2 years of PT updates.. so it would take 6 years to begin with, of pro tools renewals, to get to dp + one upgrade price. And then, sure, it may work out that DP is slightly cheaper over 20 years. That's far from a big deal when we are talking this sort of difference.

Plus, don't get me started on dp lack of audio preview and browser of any kind lol!

OMG....please don't distract Avid with such trivia.

They're already struggling enough to identify with the myriad of truly creative suggestions on Ideascale........some of which have been there for many years.

I guess you could throw this idea there as well (if it isn't already) and watch it slowly rot with the rest.

I would be uncomfortable with pushing GUI requests on Avid until there is absolutely nothing else left to address.

People are not afraid of change, they just don't agree that this change is even remotely necessary or desirable. I mean honestly when you already have the best looking, best laid out, GUI in the business, with a significant choices of color palate and brightness and saturation levels for everything from washed out light grey, to dark grey, to slight color, to bright color, and arguably the most 3D looking and the easiest to identify different track grouping and type why on earth would you opt to change.
Avid could certainly make improvements but GUI is arguably not one of them
