Default Audio Playback Volume,

I have recently upgraded from pro tools 8 to pro tools 9.05. My system is Windows 7-64 with a M-audio fast track ultra interface. I have tried to bounce a session to disk as an MP3 and I am getting the following message each time I try: Audio Playback Volume not set up. Anyone have some advice for me?

Need to prod for a little more info first. You have at least two hard drives attached, one for the system and one for Pro Tools sessions, yes? In the Workspace, the disk to be used for sessions should have an "R" in the column with the heading "A."

Default Re: Audio Playback Volume,

Thanks for the heads up. Last night I checked out my settings and the external drive that I have been using was set to playback only. When I tried to change to Record I was unable to--evidently because the disk was formatted for playback only. My system drive was set to record but the session I was trying to bounce had been originated and saved to the external drive previously, in my effort to save the drive space on my PC. Well that was a step that I missed early on but I do have a new Glyph drive that I am about to format. Do you have any suggestions to add to assist me in getting this one right?

External. Ah. Maybe it's not formatted NTFS (HFS+ and FAT32 might not work)? Or it's mounted over a network? Or it's a SSD? Or it's connected by firewire? For Win7 systems, externals should be connected via USB. (Macs should be firewire.)

or maybe its formatted as Dynamic instead of BASIC(which is required as well). I learned that one the hard way

I don't even know that that means. Wiki-time.

Okay, I will take another look at the error message I am getting on my external drive and throw it in the forum in the morning. I certainly want to make sure that I format my new Glyph drive correctly.

Cheers,
