I don't know a lot about dance music, but I just got Reaktor3 and it is completely insane. Really, so good. --wolfie

I got virus when I upgraded to a Mix+ system and I love it. Pros: It sounds great, it's easy to find your way around the programming parameters and the presets are mostly pretty good for dance things. Cons: It's weak at emulating "real" instruments. Considering the fact that you're doing a lot of dance stuff that's probably a good thing.

Considering that you can get a number of instances in a session (stereo and mono) the $600 price that I've seen for it doesn't seem too steep. I've also found it easy to use for creating "stings" and so on in sound design situations.

Virus is really amazing, and integrates beautifully into TDM. I don't care for native softsynths like retro-- they just don't feel right. I like having everything right in Pro Tools.

Roland or someone should get smart and make a TDM synth that actually emulates real instruments (like a B3 emulation for TDM where you could make ProControl faders act like drawbars). I would snatch it up in a second.

Somebody already did - they're called Native Instruments, and the B4 is amazing - for TDM you'll need to use the standalone/DirectConnect version, or use Logic TDM w/ ESB
