help!!! My audio files were converted to Qucktime

hey i just bought an external hard drive for my g4 and transferred a bunch of sessions to the new drive. now i get an error when trying to open these session saying cannot comlpete "Logical end-of-file reached 39" so i look into the audio files folder and realize all the files have been converted from digidesign to Quicktime... does anyone know how to convert these back to digidesign files? thanks

click on the file, GET INFO (apple-i). under the "Open With" tab, look at the Application that is selected. switch it to whatever you want. they are not converted.

hey i tried my darndest to follow your instruction to a tee but i'm not the most fluent person on a computer. do i open the audio files folder? select all files then open with protools?

i set the drive up as extended

go into the audio folder.

click on ONE file.

apple-i

go down to "open with" tab. clcik on that to open. in drop down menu, select the app you want, in this case, Pro Tools. then hit the "change all" button. this will change the default open for all these file types. but you only need to do it once.

the files then should say .aif or .wav or whatever.

it seems as if it looks like your files are quictime files becasue of the icon.

then, you need to open your session, right?

can you create a new session and import the tracks into it?

ok that worked and i thank you very much... but i still have a problem. the session will not open up and it gives me this error "Logical end-of-file reached (-39)" does anyone know how to fix this part? thanks again

i just edited my post above, so you may have missed it.

try opening a new session and importing tracks.

also, run disk warrior on your disks.

You're not hearing what Tom is telling you to do...

Do not "import audio"

Do this:

1. make a new session, at the same sample rate as your old session
2. use the command, "import session data" - and import the TRACKS from your old session (the one that's giving you the error) - set audio file handling to copy. If you need a primer on "import session data" search the reference guide.

This may salvage your session.

If this fails, import tracks ONE AT A TIME until you find the offending track and/or audio. This way, you can go back to backup or saftey copies of the original session and maybe import all tracks.
