It works fine, it's just not proper that Avid is asking us to turn the Mac's WiFi off when many people's configurations require it for one reason or another. It's not like disabling a screen saver, it's wireless networking. Many cannot run a direct ethernet cable. |

When I think of the truly "exciting" days of Pro Tools, I really remember the Digidesign days when Phil Jackson made those fabulous tutorial videos for Pro Tools 7 & 8. Playlist of his PT accelerated series... https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...93C4411771FF60 This is the kind of excitement I wish Avid would get back to. Hire Phil Jackson back (oh and all the other Daly City staff). Phil Jackson today: https://www.linkedin.com/in/phil-jackson-62bb873 (hmm works at Tesla now, great for them!) Oh yeah and hire back Dave Lebolt as CTO https://www.linkedin.com/in/davelebolt what a great musician and Pro Tools advocate: https://youtu.be/JcGWhv9iAvg

The above configuration allows the overhead of the WIFI to be avoided on the computer running Pro Tools. The iPad has no idea how the Pro Tools computer is connected to the network nor does it care. That said, I personally have NEVER had WIFI being turned on affect Pro Tools performance. I question Avid’s no WIFI stipulation. Network traffic accessing the Pro Tools machine CAN affect performance whether it’s wired or wireless but Avid doesn’t seem to have an issue with wired connections.

A lot of us here are split brainded types, artists and scientists. We assume things that are obvious to us are to everyone. Back to the network point. It doesn’t matter how a device connects to the network (wired or wireless). Once on the network, all can talk to each other. I’m typing this on my wireless iPad. All the servers, routers, switches, etc this is passing through to get to this forum are wired. I’m wireless.

Re: Pro tools 2019 !
I keep saying it, AVID, please please please think about the regular (non ultimate) Pro Tools users. The 32 channel I/O limit is a pain in the ass. No other DAW on the market has such stupid I/O count limitation.
We have a brand new C24 that is standing still unused for the last 2 years, because of this limitation. It is unworkable for us. We were forced to switched to Cubase. Upgrading to Ultimate with HDX hardware is simply too expensive for us (small studio). Want to restrict the I/O count with a license model? Then at least push the limit up to a more modern value something like 64 or 96 I/O channels. That would bring us back into Avid / Pro Tools land for sure. Really feeling left out here.. |

Re: Pro tools 2019 !
Sorry, but my sympathies go to people -- such as myself back in the day -- who had to suffer from 18 max. i/o of the PTLE software.
While 32 is doable for most, that 18 was for the most part way too restrictive. And even for that "full" 18 i/o you had to combine 8 analog, 8 ADAT (48k max) and 2 SPDIF ... so in my book things are very little limited on the limited software. But sure, you'd like that only limitation would be the amount of money it costs, wouldn't you?
