Interesting thought: is there a market for a $10K+ native system?
Good question. And I think the answer is yes. If Avid sold a version of PTHD that adapted to whatever hardware was available, we would jump all over it.

I need the same software functions on my laptop, my LE/CPTK system and my HD system, and I'd be willing to pay for it.

Of course, a big selling point for Pro Tools thus far has been an assurance of quality which Digi can offer becuase they make the interface, test everything, and publish the configurations they support. I'm sure there's no way they want to open up the grid of hardware to be supported (with the exception of m-powered) and give up what I'm sure is seen by corporate as a serious advantage and market differentiator. (just thinking like a marketing geek, which I am not, but I sure am exposed to a lot in my work.)

If I had to venture a wild guess, I'd say they'll do some new hardware with FPGA, and that it won't be in the next few months. (fwiw, this is pure conjecture, I have zero inside info here.)

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

We have seen this happening for a long time across multiple Pro-Tools versions. One thing we do to help (not cure) is regularly recreate our templates.

It seems to happen a lot when assigning/creating new buses/outputs etc in a large 5.1 session and Pro-Tools has to "De-activate/Re-activate" Plug-ins and Buses as it shuffles it's resources.

Like has been mentioned, trashing DBs and Prefs sorts it out temporarily, as can simply quitting and restarting PT in some cases.

It's possible there might be a fix or a partial fix for this in 8.0.3. Anyone notice yet?

I had these problems too.
I unchecked the dsp cache (sytem usage window ) - since that, the problem never occured again.
While chaching dsp PT obviously can get confused with resources and so built up an irrational routing.
Hope this can help anybody on this issue.
cheers
Martin

Post Re: has anyone seen random busses/outputs stop working

Hello Danny:

We've gotten in the habit of avoiding actions that cause the famous I/O bug (activating several inactive tracks at once, importing tracks when DSP usage is nearly maximum, etc.), but since installing 8.0.3, we haven't seen it.

Thanks Avid!

Best,

Nathaniel Reichman

Did not work on 803HD here ;(

I have dsp cache disabled.

Does this also occur on Windows PC? Or is that just when using Apple Mac OSX ?

Probably I should try Bootcamp? with Windows

[EDIT:]
I've installed Protools under Windows to test this now and opened one session I am working on.
After loading the Project, one BUS was broken instantly, even restarting Protools did not fixed it that time.

Any workaround ? Please post Bug reports to AVID so that they are aware of this issue.
