loop section but when i click away loops dissapear

Hey all, when i loop a section that i want to listen to and edit, i find that if i click on a track in the looped region to edit, the loop goes away.

How can i click on regions to edit within the loop, but not have the loop to dissapear when i click within the loop?

pro tools looping function is crap imo. there should be dedicated loop markers that you can drag to where you want, just like in Reason.

for now though you have to make sure the timeline and edit cursor is linked (Shift + /) and that timeline insertion follows playback (first check box on the first tab of the preferences. or maybe you have to set it so timeline insertion doesnt follow playback. im not sure which one it is. try both.

Here is another workaround.

Select your old loop region and simply drag the tail of the cursor over your new edit and use Capture command or Region Group command.

Thanks filosofem. I had already used the feature request form. Perhaps you could do the same if you agree on the feature?

I checked last night how to do it and here it is:

Make sure Time Line Insertion Follows Playback is UNCHECKED in the Preferences. Then make a loop selection with the Link Edit & Timeline button turned ON. Then once the selection is made, turn the Link Edit & Timeline button OFF.

This will allow you to edit notes while looping playback and will also allow you to stop and restart playback without losing your loop selection.

Very annoying if you ask me. I urge all people who are having this problem to fill in the feature request form that filosofem so kindly linked to in this thread.

Yeah I'll give that a try myself tomorrow. Do you know of any Key Commands, for the "Time Line..." and "Link Edit..." preferences?

i also noticed that you dont need to turn the Link Edit & Timeline button on to make the loop selection BUT if you are going to make the loop selection with it turned OFF you have to make the selection in the timeline bar.

to be honest, i dont mind the digidesign looping system. it has its pros and cons. but i could definitly live with it if two things were fixed:

1. pressing the return to start transport button didnt break the loop selection.
2. if playback is stopped, it doesnt always restart from the begining of the loop again.

Yeah I totally agree, you raise some good points. I also don't think that you would be alone with this request either. Over the short time that I've been on the DUC, I've seen several threads from posters enquiring about this very subject. I wonder ...have you had a look at the new version 7 Looping Regions feature?
