Default PC/MAC Collaboration

Hello,

I have a G4 iMac and I have been trying to collaborate with my buddy who has a PC. The problem is that transferring files back and forth is very tedious. We tried plugging in two different external hard drives into my Mac but my Mac does not recognize any of the files and wants to re-initialize his drives. Is there any recourse other than burning audio files, fades, and sessions onto CDs for import? Thanks.

A format that both Platforms can read and write to is FAT32, just make sure that the drive is formatted to that and you should be OK. Pro Tools on the mac doesn't support fat32 drives so will need to copy the files on to an OSX Journalled format when you want to boot the session.

Cheers

The latest version of PT (on Windows) can read / write directly to HFS+. Format your external (transfer) drive as such. For older versions of PT, you can use the 3rd party program MacDrive...

Fat32 has several limitations, actually. I second Wolfskin's comment (HFS+/MadDrive on Win).

Thanks for your suggestions. Forgive my ignorance, but it seems that the MacDrive program is used to read Mac drives on PCs. Is this a two-way thing? I am trying to get a dump of session data from his PC on to my Mac and I am unfortunately running Panther and PT 6.0.1.

Mac OS will read and write to FAT 32 it is NTFS that Mac OS dislikes
Pro Tools on Mac will not play or record to FAT 32 drive but you can transfer to and from a HFS+ drive
and please get up to 6.2.3 at least, you can go to 6.4 (001) or 6.9 (002/mbox) depending on your hardware
