i upgraded my 2009 mac pro to a 2 x 3.46 6 core intel with 48 gb ram and it’s great, i sometimes worry if i did things right changing it as i did it myself, screw it up wise, it seems fine, i haven’t thrown anything super huge at it yet

It's not that hard. As long as you get the solver stuff in the right spot.

Yeah - getting the right amount of heat sink paste is crucial. Got to play Goldilocks - not too much and not too little elsewise heat transfer won't be optimal.

Good day folks,

UPDATE: Okay running Big Sur 11.2.3 for two weeks now. Seems snappier than Mojave & Catalina. Does use the 128ram as well.

205Maxi at Mac Rumors has 256ram running flawlessly. Intel reports certain chips can run 288ram (4Gbit) sticks.
