Default Canopus sync offset different

I'm getting closest sync at 14 or 15 quarter frames offset. Does anyone know why this could be? I have a dual 1 gHz machine and I wonder if that affects the FW latency. PT 6.2.3/Panther/2GB RAM

Yes mine is also 14/15 the last time I checked.

I always thought that the offset was a fixed Firewire characteristic, but obviously it seems more system dependent.

I don't know if that's OS / harware / software or a combination. But it's definitely not "22".

Definitely a case where RTFM will bite you.

yeah, same here. But i still don't know what influences this latency. Obviously processor speed, but i also have the feeling, that means, i am not sure, that it also depends on other loads on the processor, like, Altiverb. Or Big sessions? Dunno? I still haven't found a way to measure this offset other then by eye. I made a short movie with hand clapping and such to check sync with. i have; 17 frames on my dual 1.25 OS9.2.2 with Echo Fire. PAL. Who tells?

It's interesting that you see that in OS9, I had assumed it was an OSX change in the video latency!?

Hiya,
Just got my dual 2G, G5 HD3 Accel system up and running last week. The Canopus offset on a current session is at 15 quarter frames. 15 quarter frames is not consistent from session to session though, sometimes it's more, sometimes less but not by much. Incredibly frustrating, especially if there is no hard sync point in the vid. Do you guys find the offset to change within a session? I'm not sure, you know the longer you watch for exact sync the more your brain tricks you - at least mine does.
Digi? Any fixes, suggestions, or workarounds (for the offset, not my brain)? Thanks
V

i had a friend make me a 30 sec color bars and beeps (1 frame of bars and 1K tone) ... happens every sec ...

really helps when trying to get that firewire latency to happen ...

client of mine has to use 30 quarter frames on dual 1 gig quicksilver ...

if you are in LA i can make a few copies and we can share it ... to large to email and i do not have a website ...

I think there is a similar sync issue when using the Canopus with Final Cut Express. This might point to hardware as the culprit. Or perhaps it's the codec that Canopus uses. Anyone else notice the FCE sync being out? I am doing further tests, will post more soon. (dual 2 ghz G5, OS 10.3.3)

Hi! I´m using a Formac FS10 DV Converter (4 Years old) and my Offset is 17 to 18 frames.
My System G4 MDD Dual 1GHz 1G Ram OSX 10.2.8 PT 6 Mix Plus.

Is here someone who can tell if the offsett is the same when using Logic on the same hardware?
