Hey so, explain something to me here.

Since I'm mostly a live sound guy, and pretty much grew up on digital live sound consoles, and have been using Protools ITB, with various digital consoles or control surfaces...

How do you use an analog console (without automated faders) with Protools? Is it just a channel strip on the input side? and then during mixing you work in the box without using the console faders to mix?

so you would incorporate it but it would not have the full workflow of flying faders, and fader feedback to PT.

I would imagine.

Record- front end sonic quality.
Edit - ITB all effects verbs ecetera,
Mix - (all PT soft faders at 100%) - PT feeds the desk and you mix the song....just like a regular desk. using onboard EQ and the like (idk if it has dynamics on board)

so you mix like a regular console. which means no recall ability. - but you have SSL analog summing and buss compression, then feed that 2 track back into protools.

here is where your supposed to be impressed by the desk and it's price....how much does a regular SSL desk cost? over 100K (at least idk exactly)

So they sell you a scaled down version (no flying faders, or fader feedback) and only 8 onboard preamps, and your supposed to go - Good Golly Miss Molly. I will take 2 for that price.

think API - 1608
