Default Reaper as second DAWS

I'm curious if any of you guys use Reaper as a second DAWS in addition to Pro Tools.

I've been experimenting with it; it seems there are a lot of folks using it because one skin available makes it look more like Pro tools!

Thanks!

I do; I love it. It's much more flexible and intuitive than Pro Tools (and was 64 bit years ago). Infinite amount of tracks, super easy to organize even highly complex (with folders and routing).

I still like Pro Tools though, for post production, and because so many people use it (compatibility).

I use it as a VSTi host. I tested a bunch of other DAWs and it was by far the most efficient for VST's and VSTi's.

Many users here have REAPER in their sig, as they use it as a host within PT. As for myself, REAPER, Studio One, Reason and various open source experimental software all get used from my DAW toolbox. Different tools for different jobs.

To host plug-in VI's that use another format such as VST, Audio Units etc. Some plug-ins are not developed in the AAX or RTAS format. REAPER(and other software solutions) can be used as a host for these and sent via ReWire into PT. The same way Reason can be used in PT. There are a few solutions for external plug-in VI hosting out there.

I'm definitely with you on the flexible part, but intuitive...oh boy...not for me. Every time I've attempted to do any editing, bussing or pretty much anything beyond using it as a tape machine, I get frustrated really quick.

having said that, I've used it a bit as a location recorder (glorified tape deck) because (at least with PT10) in native land it can handle about twice the number of live record tracks that PT can on the same computer/interface combo without dropping out of record with cpu errors. Reaper is unstoppable that way.

And last time I checked the installer was a whopping 8 mb and would run off of a USB stick. Now THAT's an impressive trick!
