Thinking of pulling the trigger on PTHD Native but undecided on to get the PCIe card for my Macpro tower or Native Thunderbolt Box . Would be nice if I could use the Native TB Box on my laptop and Macpro
Has anyone tried the Native thunderbolt Box using a Thunderbolt - FW800 adaptor ? |

Hmmm. I just got the HD Native TB but I don't have a TB to FireWire adaptor. I do have a FireWire to thunderbolt 2 adaptor, though that's not what you asked about. Do you need a TB to FireWire adaptor because you've run out of ports or?

Ah, got ya. Yea, that's a doozy because I've only ever seen FireWire to thunderbolt but not the other way around. You can go with the Omni with the PCI card bundle then just buy this for when you're mobile https://reverb.com/item/3131223-avid...Dmvw_wcB&pla=1

Or get an external PCI chassis and stick it in there when you're mobile then stick it in the mac pro when you return, lol. Major pain but would save $700. Actually, no, the chassis are a few hundred by themselves. Probably better to just spend a few hundred more for the real box.
This one is $650 but I'm not sure if you'd need to get a DigiLink license. http://m.ebay.com/itm/Avid-HD-Native...257Ciid%253A10 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks for responses ,
Where I work in one PT room running a 003 using FW800 - TB adaptor a Trashcan Mac doing Audio Post 5.1 with very large bussing template and Hi res video with out a glitch so was thinking the TB adaptor on a Native card would give just as good performance or better . |

This won't work. You can get FireWire from a Thunderbolt connection but can't connect Thunderbolt devices to FireWire.

Exactly. That's why I suggest getting an HD Native box.
