Default Annoying smart tool fade issue

More often than not when I hover the smart tool over the top right edge of a region and select when i see the fade tool, the fade preview jumps way left, almost to the beginning of the region. Occasionally the same happens when I use the trim tool, from the front or end of a region, the "trimmed" or "fade" selection jumps way to far.

Is there a smart tool glitch, or more likely a preference I am missing. This is way too frustrating for doing drum or vocal editing with very short fades.

I am running PT10.3.4 on a Mac 2.6 GHz, i7, 8GB/1600 MHz

Which edit mode are you in? If you are in grid it would explain it. If so you need to switch to slip or you can hold Cmd and do the fade and the cursor will behave like slip mode. Or did I misunderstand?

What kind of mouse/trackpad are you using?

I've had the same problem follow between the Mac Book track pad and both Apple mouse options, wired/wireless. I Have been testing various preferences, and tool options and it is so random and odd. I truly have no idea.

Really sounds like a mouse driver problem more than anything else. I've heard of a lot of these kinds of problems, particularly with laptops - probably has nothing to do with Pro Tools specifically.
