Default icon in audio track

I'm cleaning up some guitar tracks and making some clip gain adjustments.

An icon I've only seen occasionally (maybe twice in the past year) is in the upper right-hand corner of one clip (attached). There is nothing special or unique about that clip.

I've tried various various to search for this in the manual but since I don't know what it is, I don't know how to search for it.

Can someone please tell me what this is? It's driving me a bit batty.

Thank you.

Thanks, Drew. Now I know what to read up on. I was moving a few clips to sync (align) with other tracks. Not sure why this would appear, but I'll look into it.

I think there's a pref to auto enable EA (can't remember, I don't use EA) and then if you grab something with the trim tool, it can expand/compress a clip and this icon will show up.

Thanks again. I've never used EA. I suspect I made an error when doing a tweak.

Preferences -> Processing -> "Enable Elastic Audio On New Tracks"
Preferences -> Editing -> "New Tracks Default To Ticks Timebase"

Most users should leave these off.

Agreed!! Rich, do you happen to know if they default to on?? Haven't trashed prefs or done a clean install in ages.

Thanks so much for this--I'll check my prefs. I don't think I would have ever enabled them.

Hi Drew - they should default to off, but I can't tell you how many times I've gotten audio tracks in ticks and elastic audio on and the sender says: "ticks timebase? Elastic Audio? what's that?"

Never hurts to double check.

I'm sure I never changed mine: "Enable Elastic Audio" was checked; "New Tracks Default..." was not.
