11.1.3 is out - an end to PT 11 video problems?

Just tried it...video still freezes with a black screen before playback and a black screen afterwards. 10.3.8 is still significantly more response with video instantly playing back video without a delay. That fix wasn't in the list of fixes though.

I can't remember where I read this, but with Blackmagic card the best driver to use is the 9.5.3 driver

If that's desktop video you're seeing the black flash frame with then I'm not sure what that is …. h264 can be pretty spotty.

I would not be using that v9 driver with 11.1.3 personally. That is the whole point of the PTE article., BM AND Avid have been fixing the solution.

Just upgraded to 11.1.3. Was initially disappointed as the first thing I got was the thumbnail error message. PT seemed in a bit of a funk, so I did a full power down reboot of the system, and now it's rock solid. Seems to open sessions even faster now. Can't get the 10.3.9 zip file to extract properly so can't report on that.

One nice thing, not related to video. I fired up an old session which had a field recorder guide track which referred to a location I knew didn't exist anymore. Rather than sitting in a sulk like previous versions, PT quickly came up with a window telling me that the FRGT could no longer find the media, so has disabled it. Top start so far!

I just installed it incl. HD driver, codecs and recent BM driver (v10.1) which also flashes the card itself.

No improvement regarding:

-Selecting to picture
-Nudging clips
-Moving around with +/-

all still as laggy as under 11.1.2

Scrubbing however is still smooth like under 11.1.2

None of the above was mentioned as being fixed in the read me to be fair. Will see how it works regarding disconnects etc. over today's work.

BTW: Heven't seen the black frame issue mentioned above since 11.1.2 came out so that's probably related to using an outdated BM driver.

Ray: I watched a demo video that Mike made and the AJA seems much snappier than what I'm seeing with my Decklink SDI. None of the above mentioned sluggish issues. Scrubbing seems on par with the BM card, though. No difference there. Although this is great for AJA users I won't jump ship now and invest 5k€ on top of 5xPT11 to get around these issues at this point. Seems a bit expensive. Unfortunately AJA doesn't offer genlockable cards below 1k€ like the Decklink SDI AFAIK so for larger shops with 10+ rooms I don't think anyone is going to move to AJA to work around a bug.

However I do think AVID should temporarily pull BM from their list of supported cards to put some pressure on BM till this is fixed.
Would be interesting to get a word from AVID if this is as good as it gets from AVID's end with BM cards or if this is an ongoing thing which is still being worked on.
So far only the disconnect issues seem to have been fixed (to be confirmed in daily work ;-) )

Sorry, update:

I do see the screen black-out at the head and tail of every play pass now. It happens only on the card's out not in the video window.



This sucks big time. Was better before even with the AVE disconnects. Will try and install the old BM driver.
