Default PT8 / 003 factory. with Mini Mac

Any 1 used a mini mac with PT8 /003 Factory ?

Using snow leopard.

I'm a PC user and considering a switch to mac, the mini mac would be a cheap
door opener for me to start with.

Any thoughts

There have been some other threads on this that you might want to check out.

But basically, the new mac mini specs are similar to the Imacs from a couple of years ago, which I have, and I can do quite a lot with it, so these should be pretty decent.

As you're probably aware, they don't come with a keyboard, mouse, or display, but you should be able to use the ones from your windows pc with it.

However, if you can spring for a little more, you might want to look at the lowest price Imac ($1199).

There have been those here that say NOT TO DO IT---however I've sold and configured numerous configurations with the MacMini not just for PTLE but for video editing and other DAW applications. Just make sure you have a GREAT hard-drive (coughcoughGLYPHcoughcough), plenty of RAM, and time to make your music! Today's MacMini's and iMacs are not toys, they are serious computers for serious work.

When you say great Hard drive are you suggesting the SATA Drives in the mac mini are not good??

What about using Protools on a Mac book pro, core duo type??

The speed of the internal system drive can be either 5400 or 7200. What is important for Protools is the speed of the second hard drive for the session files. That one (read as "external firewire hard drive") needs to be a 7200 drive. You should not record our sessions onto the system drive.

This true for either the Mac Mini or a Macbook Pro. Only the tower Mac Pro can have additional internal drives.

From what i can see the mac mini only has a 5400rpm drive?

What if you partition the drive so you don't separate the system drive with the rest of the machine?

NEver use the internal system drive----whether you're on a Mac or Windows machine, desktop or laptop, etc. Always use a separate, dedicated drive. In the case of the Mini, FIREWIRE---never USB.
