Can I do Multiple Midi takes then comp?
Can you record multiple midi takes then comp them like you can with audio?
I use Superior drums. I'd love to record a few drum takes to a click then take the best parts of them. Hopefully, I don't have to use three instrument channels and 3 version of Superior to achieve this. My RAM would hate me. |

Re: Can I do Multiple Midi takes then comp?
No. You can Loop Record and this will create Takes but MIDI Merge is disabled meaning the drum performance needs to be done in one take each. Right-click Match Takes should list each Take but comping would need to be dragged from the Bin, assigning the MIDI Output and Solo.

I usually use Quick Punch for major fixes and simply edit the piano roll once I get a decent performance. I would also like to see multiple playlists with MIDI so we could comp. Maybe in PT9

Re: Can I do Multiple Midi takes then comp?
Thanks guys. Bummer. I'd love to do a solid basic drum performance with good time followed with a few other takes of crazy fills etc. Then simply pop in what works.
I guess I can just do midi loop over certain sections and try different fills. It's still a little cumbersome, though. Oh well. I guess you can't have everything. Thanks for the verification. |

You can let your click track run long and just advance past the end of the song and record all the crazy fills you want. Once you finish, you can copy/paste any of those back in the song, anywhere you want.

Re: Can I do Multiple Midi takes then comp?
I'll give that a shot but it's definitely not the same as jamming along to the melody and lyrics of the song.
I did a loop record and it did ok. There was a little bit of workaround since, at the end, it started another take and I had to revert to the first loop. |

Re: Can I do Multiple Midi takes then comp?
This was something i so hoped the "comp" feature set and MEW would bring. For composing, i love running multiple tries at things, such as synth leads, or piano lines with different embellishments for example. Cubase 5 does have this, so i hopped there for composing. PT is still my track/mix workhorse, despitethe ridiculous and unnecessary lack of ADC.
