LTO tape backup
Anyone using LTO for archiving/safety backups? I'd like to purchase one of these but I'm not sure which brand to buy. Which ones work with OSX? I have an ATTO UL4S scsi card, and Retrospect software.
I'm having trouble finding info about this for a Macintosh G5 or G4. Any ideas? Thanks. |

Re: LTO tape backup
No one? OK. Well with some effort I found that the IBM LTO 2 drive I have works with a G4 1.25ghz running OS X 10.4.? and Retrospect 6. It backs up 200gb uncompressed on one $40 tape, and 400gb compressed.
I have an ATTO ULS4 scsi card. My old Adaptec 29160 wasn't supported by Restrospect, and Adapted doesn't develop for Mac anymore. Capitol Studios in LA uses LTO 2 for backup. That's how I became interested. Never used AIT or anything else. |

Re: LTO tape backup
LTO is by far way superior to AIT-2.
Go for it, you won't regret it. Fast, reliable, and it's fixed head - the tapes will play after a few years. We've been using it for over 2 years, and it kicks major butt. IBM is fine, that's what we have. No compatibility probs. -Todd A. |
