Re: Hackintosh - Salvage your HD PCI cards - You Can Do It Too!
I tried it with no cards in, still get the panic . Next idea please. I'll try anything ! (also, why is it fine with Snow Leopard & PT8, which also has a digital.kext ?)

Re: Hackintosh - Salvage your HD PCI cards - You Can Do It Too!
The error is connected to he IOPCIFamily.kext, which had several updates in 10.8 alone. Although this is mere guesswork.
Do you have the resources to make a clean reinstall of everything, including setting up your Hackintosh with Unibeast? Nobody knows what exactly the guy did, who installed it for you - or do you know? If we do it from scratch and monitor every step it should be easier to find the culprit. No guarantees though, but I managed to sort every problem setting up a Hackintosh so far, and I did a fair number.

Re: Hackintosh - Salvage your HD PCI cards - You Can Do It Too!
OK. If your computer still doesn’t start then start it up again while holding down the “Shift” key. After this open your Main (system) HD. There you will find a folder named “Extra”, open that folder and then open the Boot setting file its name is “org.chameleon.Boot.plist" normally. For this use Text Edit. Include the following string between the <dict> and </dict>:
<string>npci=0x2000</string> Do not forget to also include these flags as well: <string>Yes</string> <key>Kernel Flags</key> Save it, then Restart the machine. If it doesn’t work then start up again while holding down Shift key and again open the Boot file and instead of this string <string>npci=0x2000</string> use this: <string>npci=0x3000</string> Save then Restart. If it doesn’t work then you may need to reinstall the OS and Pro-Tools step by step as Meads suggest it.

Re: Hackintosh - Salvage your HD PCI cards - You Can Do It Too!
TiPo, thanks for your suggestion. I finally got to try both your tweaks yesterday, & sadly had just the same Kernal panic.
Meads, to answer you. I did try originally to install ML myself, using a 'unibeast' prepared USB stick that a friend had made on his, but could never get the thing to boot to desktop. It was only after a few days/nights of trying this, that I eventually got hold of the guy who built it, who provided his own solution. I have to say, his method is slightly weird, as it involves a boot loader on the SL partition, that interacts in some way with the ML one ! Should it be fairly straightforward to do from your experience? I only use the machine for Pro Tools, so thus I guess would have little to lose by another attempt on the ML drive, if you think you could guide me though where I'm going wrong? If you could get in contact with me by mailing lostboys07 (at) googlemail.com that would be much appreciated. If I can get the thing working, i'll happily pay for your time tech-supporting the install process via email (&/or a call to Germany) cheers

Re: Hackintosh - Salvage your HD PCI cards - You Can Do It Too!
I love hackintosh's - once they are working that is - it can be very frustrating the first time you try it - and the first time you screw it up (I've done both)

Re: Hackintosh - Salvage your HD PCI cards - You Can Do It Too!
This thread seems to be mainly about building a Hackintosh for PCI/x based HD Systems. I currently have a 2007 MacPro, the first version with the intel processor and I really need to upgrade. I have no plans for HDN or HDX, and would love to build a Hackintosh for my current HD2 pcie. When I look at the tonymacx site, it seems like most motherboards there only have one PCIe slot for the long cards, but plenty of other slots for shorter cards. Am I looking at it correctly? Here is one of the motherboards he recommends from the "Custom MacPro" option of builds:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...D=4902415&SID= Taken from this link: http://www.tonymacx86.com/393-buildi...ober-2013.html When I look at the board, it looks like the fan would block the HD Accel cards. The other recommended MB's seem to have similar issues. Am I getting this right?

Re: Hackintosh - Salvage your HD PCI cards - You Can Do It Too!
Barry, you are correct. This is a post about PCIx systems.
There are many successful PCIe builds to choose from. Search for PCIe HD2 and you should fine the info you need. Happy Hacking!!

Re: Hackintosh - Salvage your HD PCI cards - You Can Do It Too!
OK, so Meads has done great work talking me though getting Mountain Lion installed.
Everything seems to work, but when I actually try & play a track in Pro Tools I get this.. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/3epeyw5d9qhor2w/JRwf-tW5fY When i load a song up. Protools just plays a short loop (about half a second) of sound, & just loops that sample from wherever I start playback. It as if it's grabbing audio into a buffer & then just looping it ! I've tried all the obvious things: * run digitest - all three cards pass * tried with a single core card * trashed all the prefs * removed all plugins (dpm & aax) except the mixer needed to run It still has the problem though (see video). Switching the playback engine to native mode (using a USB interface) & playback is just fine. Also everything is working fine under TDM/Pro Tools 8 on the original SL partition. So, any one have any fix ideas?

Re: Hackintosh - Salvage your HD PCI cards - You Can Do It Too!
There are so many questions to ask Ru_C.
Let's start with these: 1) Where does the audio reside? 2) What version of PT are you running with ML? 3) Explain what you mean by "Switching the playback engine to native mode (using a USB interface)". 4) Where are you getting your clock reference? What interface are you using with your TDM engine? 5) What are your buffer settings? How much RAM have you allocated in PT? What is your total RAM? Can you attach screen shots of your TDM & Native playback set ups? What about your audio midi setup in the OS. Are you making changes there?
