Pro tools HD II and Xserve
Hi all,
I'm going to record live session with my HD II. I like to know if the Pro Tools HD is compatible with the Xserve (intel) I want to put it in a Rack (more easy to carrying than the Mac pro) Did someone use HD PT in a Xserve ? Thanks ByPass |

Re: Pro tools HD II and Xserve
Keep in mind that Xserve is *longer* than standard audio racks. Much longer! I think usually audio rack is 45cm deep, but computer racks are something like 70cm deep beasts. So it's not that easy to carry around. At least I prefer the desktop workstation that has nice handles.

Re: Pro tools HD II and Xserve
AFAIK, it is not possible, as the OS X for servers is different from the OS X for ordinary Macs.
I once asked, because I had the same idea, but sadly it was (at least at that time) not possible. matthias

Re: Pro tools HD II and Xserve
Is there a reason why you couldn't install OSX Client to a server hardware? I think not. And as far as I know, OSX Server is just a superset of OSX Client (or to put it another way: OSX Client is a subset of OSX Server). The same core, the same drivers. I don't see why you couldn't make it work, software-wise.
But the hardware is *DEEP* when you look at it in the real life. Picture tells a thousand lies in this case.

Re: Pro tools HD II and Xserve
I have a few Xserve's, they should be able to run the normal desktop Mac OS X just fine. As everyone said, the xserves are very long, I use an an Xrack:

Re: Pro tools HD II and Xserve
what I'd like to know is if you're using OSX client and Pro Tools work, can you use the Pci-X slot for a pre-pcie HD1 set-up?
