Default Creating a multichannel BWAV file

I need to convert 5 mono stems into a single embedded multichannel BWAV file with timecode metadata. Can protools do this, or do I need something like WaveAgent or SoundGrinder perhaps?

Just put the five mono stems onto a 5.0 track. Place the file at the time code you want it to start at. Consolidate the file which will embed the time code. Re label the file and export as interleaved. If the file size is over four gigs it won't let you do this as pro tools is limited to four gigs per wav file ( is this still true?) . In which case you can either go multi mono or use a different piece of software.

Thank you for this. That worked, however, I need to maintain individual track names (DX, FX, VO, etc...). I seem to be stuck with the master file name and 5.0 channel extensions.

Ah so it's not a 5.0 mix but six separate mono elements you want in one file?
Do the same procedure as far as the consolidate. Then select the 5.0 track and "split to mono" from the menu ( can't remember which one, third from left I think). Then re label each mono element and then select all six files and move them back onto the 5.0 track and export!. I think this should work for you.

That doesn't work. As soon as you go to rename the individual files, the integrity of the multichannel clip is lost.

You could put them on individual mono tracks, then move back to a 5.0 track. however I think re-exporting would name them the same.

Look at WaveAgent from Sound Devices. It's free!

For the multichannel file to work each mono stem must have the same name. Then add the suffix .A1, .A2 etc for each stem file. If you need to name the individual files DX, MX SFX etc then creating a multichannel file will not work because the the file names are different. (You could use the metadata option to identify each component within the multichannel file just to avoid confusion).

Waveagent. Simple app yet the most effective for this task.

Wave Agent is very capable.

Be VERY careful using the time code stamping feature. You must test PT time stamping versus WA time stamping and see how it applies to your particular case.
