BFD with the Platinum Samples Andy Johns Expansion.

Incredibly easy to use, flexible enough to treat as a real drum kit, sounds are amazing, many drum patterns/grooves already included, and expandable enough to be able to add more kit sounds and grooves.

I'm with spk, I just don't have the Andy Johns pack YET. If it's acoustic type drums you want then this is the best IMO.

Another vote for BFD. I purchased the GrooveMonkee library of grooves to supplement the included BFD grooves.

If you need something cheaper, try Leaf Drums for free. http://www.leafdigital.com/software/leafdrums/

I haven't played with it too much but think you create patterns and then arrange patterns into songs. Ultimately, you'd want to bounce the song down to wav and then import the wav into ProTools. The included sounds suck so find better samples at http://www.samplenet.co.uk/

Keyword search for kick, snare, tom, etc. to find a plethora of good samples.

Don't forget to look at Strike, DFH, and Jam Stix before making a final decision.

i use 'tabit' for drums on my solo project... i uploaded the full program here: www.angelfire.com/mn2/others/songs/tabit.zip . its also a tab and playback program... and since its midi (can get wav through recording playback), you can change the whole drum set to real drum samples.

I couldn't have said it any better.

This is my tune with the AFJ Classic Drums, I programed the drums with the pencil tool in PTLE.

I use Reason with the Reason Drums 2.0 refill.

I use this because I've used Reason for a while, like the interface and I think the sounds in the refill are really nice. I haven't used BFD because I find Reason meets my needs - I've only heard good things about it though.

Reason is obviously a lot more than drum software so might not be what you're after. If you have Reason already then I can recommend the Drums 2.0 refill.
