002 console Preamps "MOD"
Been dinking around with a salvaged 002 console for the heck of it. Looks like the mic pres are pretty basic...? Any chance a person could be determined enough to swap out some items on that PCB and get a usable sound? I'm not talking like Boutique sound, just better than stock 002. Selling this thing would cost more in shipping than its worth, so figure I could have some fun with it?

Re: 002 console Preamps "MOD"
I would just use the digital inputs and get better preamps. Suggestions:
For the SPDIF input; API A2D(killer) or ART Digital MPA(shockingly good for the price). For the lightpipe input; Midas XL-48( it bested several Neve/API clones on drums) or Focusrite ISA-428 Mk II w/digital card(its a 4-channel unit with 4 line inputs to the digital card for any outboard preamp. A great excuse to get a lunchbox and load it up). Remember that the 002 is old and unsupported(so its going to stop working one of these days). All the above suggestions will still be useful for years, and with any DAW. Of course, if you just like to tinker, that's all fine, but you might get more "bang for buck" by building some DIY preamps(CAPI and Hairball Audio being 2 great options). Food for thought

Re: 002 console Preamps "MOD"
Right on. I was planning on using it for a controller extension (possibly) with a C|8, but now that I need a separate editing rig, it has been my interface. The Preamps will likely never be used as this is just being used for work previously done with an Mbox Micro...

Re: 002 console Preamps "MOD"
BLA did my 002 Console, but that was years ago...Not sure what they have available these days...The change was substantial and clearly audible in the pres/analog inputs/analog outputs.

Re: 002 console Preamps "MOD"
BLA has the 002r listed but no 002c. Revive has a 002r mod listed but no 002c as well, but also offer individual "request" mods. Any love on the Revive mods?

Quote:
They basically explained to me that with the lack of space in the console it was difficult to do and the aspect of putting it in caused a unacceptable rate of failure during return shipping to the customer so they stopped doing them. That was years ago.
