Default Happy Birthday Les Paul!

As a drummer I rarely perform on guitar, ( and with good reason), but my all-time favorite guitar is a Les Paul Custom.

Les brought us a number of great things that have added immeasurably to our listening enjoyment.

Happy Birthday Les, we miss you.

Things Les invented or was influential in.

Multitrack recording.
Tape Echo.
Overdubbing.
VariSpeeding.
Pitch shifting.
The solid body guitar.

Most of all

Home recording or the personal studio - However you like to think of it.

Had Les been born 50 years later Istrongly suspect he would be a member of the DUC.

I loves me some Les's Paul's

I was saving post 10K for something really big. I couldn't let a chance to pay tribute to Les go by.

Les was probably the first guy to treat the studio and the recording process itself as a instrument in its own right. Now days his old stuff doesn't maybe seem all that amazing. But one needs to realize that in 1948-50 or everyone was putting out mono records that were the best of several takes. Compare something like "How High The Moon" against A Benny Goodman track then realise Les was playing most of that stuff all by himself. Les invented the "Guitar Army" and could do about 8-9 sound on sound overdubs until the noise floor would start to over take the material. If you screwed up there was no way to fix it. You started over. Its easy to understand why he wanted a multitrack.
