We don't.

Nil, but the LA3A is certainly not a bad idea at all...

For LA3A, at this stage there is only the UAD (nice compression action but older mk1 plugin with tiny GUI and no transformer modelling, as well as of course requiring DSP), the waves which is terrible, and black rooster which is middling (and the native one I have).

Apogee has added features not present in any of the others, and if they nailed the LA3A sound, it will be a *very* worthwhile addition. I'm going to demo that one myself, but will not bother even investigating the others any further.

The one we do NOT need any more emus of is Pultec, 1176 and LA2A.. Which, on second look, are the exact three you mentioned lol.

We really don't even need any more non emulation dynamics plugins, EVER again, and we'd be set for life with what we have. Same goes for EQ.

I don't see the point in releasing these as native also and charging for them (and let's be honest, they are only free for 2.5 months for Apogee interface users).. but of course there is a point of releasing them, even emulation, as DSP fx for Apogee users (well, some of their interfaces). The native side? I just don't get it *at all*.

You may be wrong about the time period. Apogee tells me the plugs are mine to enjoy perpetually and without cost.

I downloaded and tried the four Apogee plugins (native) for use with an Apogee Element 46. The four plugins are available for use through a software channel strip interface, i.e., you can add one or more of the four components to the strip in that plugin slot in your DAW.

Although I haven't used them extensively yet, they seem quite nice.

they are free till the end of the year, yes?

As in, one can only get them FOR free, even if they have a compatible interface, till Dec 31.. right?

I never said they would expire, you completely misunderstood.

I meant that from Jan 1 they are paid plugins for everyone.

I was a little concerned that they were temporarily free... like a demo trial.

I was not interested in downloading their plugs if Apogee were going to ask me to pay them something in the future to keep them. I do not need additional copies of the plugs they offered.

Here's my chat session with Apogee...

Chat started: 2018-10-18 02:30 PM UTC

(02:30:50 PM) Studiostuff: I own an Apogee Ensemble, and received your offer to download these plugins, which are trial versions.

When the activation codes are distributed, will there be ANY charge to me for activating and using the full and permanent versions of these plugins...?

I see the prices for these plugins on the Apogee FX Rack web page.

These prices apply ONLY to purchasers of Apogee gear after the intro period, is that correct?

I will receive full versions, which I can use permanently at NO CHARGE?

Is that correct, or will there be a charge to continue to use the plugs...?

Thanks, Studiostuff

(02:31:03 PM) Greg: Hi! Thank you for reaching out.
(02:32:00 PM) Greg: Perpetual license for FX Rack will be available for free for the end-users who have purchased Element or Ensemble Thunderbolt
(02:32:37 PM) Studiostuff: No matter when they purchased the Apogee products you mention...?
(02:33:26 PM) Greg: As our website describes, if you were registered Ensemble TB or Element customer, perpetual license for FX Rack will become available for free.
(02:34:04 PM) Studiostuff: Thanks, Bye!
(02:34:38 PM) Greg: You're welcome! Have a great day!

PS: I have no idea if Apogee plan to charge everyone after Jan. 1...

PSS: The plugs sound very good to me.
