Pre for MD421 on Toms?

Any suggestions would be helpful... Also do you prefer tube or solid state pre's w/ MD 421's for rock drums? Thanks in advance.

Gotta go with Neve.

That could be Brent Averill, Chandler, or a few others.

Kick, Snare, and Toms always Neve.

Overheads you can go API, nicer top.

Room mics you can go almost anywhere.

If you can't afford Neve's, get some crappy pre (Control24 focuswrongs) and put a good sample over them.

What's the best way to get a great sounding snare sample in PT, and what do you use?
Got a couple of songs to remix and the snare sounds like hell. I would like to blend the two together.
Have used D4 in the past , but looking for easier way and better sound.
