Default PT 11 can co-exist with 10 but does upgrade require license surrender?

Hello DUCers,
Been looking to find the answer to this one but no joy yet.

PT 11 can run on the same partition as 10, that is clear.

"Q: Why should I upgrade to Pro Tools 11 when many of the plug-ins I use are not yet compatible?
A: Pro Tools 11 delivers such a boost in power and workflow enablement that most professionals will want take advantage of it immediately. All Avid AAX plug-ins, along with many plug-ins from our development partners, will offer 64-bit compatibility at the time of release, with many more to come. To ensure that customers retain backward compatibility with older plug-in formats while our partners continue to port their plug-ins to 64-bit AAX, customers can co-install and run both Pro Tools 10 and 11 on the same system, requiring no reboot of the computer."

However, does one surrender the PT 10 assent from one's iLok on upgrading to 11 or does one keep it as before in the 8-9 upgrade (still on 9 here)?

Thanks in advance for clarification.

Stephen

You get a combo license that lets you run 10.3.5 and PT11. Whether it's considered surrender or not it doesn't really matter unless you want to, for some reason, run your existing version of 10 alongside the new version of PT10 and PT11. IOW - you won't have two license assets to run PT10.

Apparently there must be something inside to PT 10.3.5 that allows it to co-exist with PT11 on the same drive.

Some additional Infos regarding the license bundle:

I bought an new Pro Tools 10 Activation Card for the full version yesterday (400$). After successfull activation I had a new section in my AVID Account: Pro Tools 11 . Actually there are download links for Pro Tool 10.3.3.
On my iLok (Version 1) I donwloaded a license bundle with licenses for Pro Tools 10 and 11. Pro Tools 10 runs perfectly with the license on the 1st Gen ilok. But Pro Tools 11 will require a 2nd Gen ilok .. but I think I have still some weeks to by a new ilok2 and move the license onto it

Greetings

Alex

This is cool for sure. One thing that gripes a lot of people and has been talked about too many times here is that a user's account doesn't necessarily show the latest version of PT available. For instance it shows you have 10.3.3 in your account but there's a 10.3.4 version that you can download and use with your current PT10 asset. It's just not linked to in your account but is available here: http://secure.avid.com/services/avid...rticleId=43812

I have a question regarding this; only due to the confusion, disappointment, and obvious (to me) coding (or crippling) this program to work/or not w/ CPTK.
So, I feel it's v important to not assume anything.
My question is; Will This version 10.3.5, which seemingly is only avail. w/ PT 11 (which will not continue support of CPTK) as a combo lic. allow us to use CPTK with it ?
For myself this would be important to know. If 10.3.5 has been crippled too, then I wouldn't want to 'surrender' my current v 10.3xxxx

apologies if this is posted in the wrong thread.
cheers_

That's a good question, hopefully we'll know soon.

But there's another potential problem. If you are a CPTK owner who's doing the $999 offer to get HD11, I am assuming that will require surrendering your CPTK license (I don't know how else they will require proof to implement this offer).

If that's the case, then it won't matter about the first question, because you won't have it available to use in 10.3.5.
