Question Media Composer vs. ProTools

Why should post production mixes be done in ProTools vs. Media Composer? Pros / Cons?

Default Re: Media Composer vs. ProTools

Use the tool best suited for the job.

Pro Tools is a Digital Audio Workstation
Media Composer is a non linear picture editor

For Mixing Pro Tools is superior
For Picture Editorial, Media composer is superior.

Rough mixes are of course useful and can be done in Media Composer which is then turned over to a sound department as an AAF for further post production audio work to be performed.

With MC5+ more audio tools have been added to Media composer such as RTAS plugins but it is still a picture editorial tool with more audio capability.

PT similarly has more picture tools than it once had but it is an Audio tool.

Hope this helps,

Ceri

when it comes to cutting sound MC is a machete at frame level only
PT is a scalpel going down to the sample level

Because you can charge more for a PT room than an Edit room
