Moving from 10.8.5 to ????
I just got a newer mac pro to replace my aging 3,1 machine. I've been happily running 12.5 (not supported) but am thinking it is time to move to 10.9.5 or higher.
Any thoughts as to Mavericks, Yosemite , El Capitan or Sierra. Mainly care about stability and performance. All that fancy new stuff in the Mac OS releases holds little appeal. More distraction. At this point I'm leaning towards Mavericks. I have already removed PT 10 with the installer and will keep it on another drive as I have some older session with plugs that did not make the AAX transition. (BFD lite and Melodyne studio 3 mainly ) Any thoughts welcome as always Brian

Re: Moving from 10.8.5 to ????
If you care about performance and stability I'd recommend you to stay at 10.8.5. I'm running a Mac Pro 5,1 with ML and PT 12.4 - no problems at all.
I'm not sure about Mavericks' performance over the ML but remember, you're paid for ML. Not for free 10.9.x «update». P.S. And yes, you're not be able to update some software but it can boost your creativity Last edited by Nikolay Polyakov; 12-28-2016 at 10:20 AM. |

Re: Moving from 10.8.5 to ????
10.8.5 was an awesome release.....super fast and stable OS.
10.10.5 was also really good.....and very stable for PT12 I skipped every other version, so I don't have any comments for 10.9

Re: Moving from 10.8.5 to ????
My iMac came with OSX 10.8.5. After a while I split the system drive into two partitions and the second one has OSX 10.9.5. Both have been solid as a rock for PT10.3.10 and 11.3.1 (then again I don't do any video work anymore).

Re: Moving from 10.8.5 to ????
Never was very fond of Mavericks but I like 10.10.5 a lot, and I have no intention of upgrading any time soon. It's a rock solid OS and it works fairly well with PT 12.5.2 for me.

Re: Moving from 10.8.5 to ????
At one time I actually had a third partition with OSX 10.10.2 and iot was too flaky for production work. Never went past that OSX version and eventually wiped that partition.
