Default Reinstatment - activation card?

I've been trying to help a fellow over on Gearslutz who is going to finally upgrade his PT9 HD rig to current PT Ultimate. Here's the link and the poster's name is 'IM WHO YOU THINK' https://www.gearslutz.com/board/avid-pro-tools/1215227-anyone-running-upgraded-cheese-grater-macs-pt.html
Start at post #22 and read on. He asked about an eBay item in post 22 and I replied that he needed a reinstatement plan and not an upgrade which is what the eBay listing calls it. In a later post he says he can return it if it's not opened. Turns out what he would return is an activation card. I wasn't aware that a reinstatement plan had an activation card. Certainly mine didn't when I reinstated from PT 11.3.2 to PT 2019.6. In one of his last posts in said thread he shows his activation card.

The question is: is what he got legit? I mentioned that he should post here just to be sure so I'm covering the bases in case he doesn't want to.

Hey Jack

Yeah it is a ”boxed” version as that contains a activation card.
Avid stopped selling boxed versions a while back but some retailers
Still have some and it is the same as a download code but came in a
box with the code instead of a download and automatic code/serial nr.

It’s musicians friend who sells so they are legit.

The same upgrade from HD9 to 2019 Ultimate is $599 aswell since there is a 40% off the reinstatement right now.

http://vi.raptor.ebaydesc.com/ws/eBa...=0&cspheader=1

And from sweetwater which is the version (upgrade) that needs HD9 and up.

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/det...e-expired-plan

I guess that the ebay store had the wrong price and he bought it before they changed it so damn that was a deal hehe

If he actually got a HD9 to Ultimate for $199 he sure screwed Musicians Friend

Thanks for the answer. I'm trying to help the guy out because I'm not sure he got a legit reinstatement. It was that $199 that's threw me. Cheaper than my reinstatement from PT 11.3.2 to 2019.6 at $299 plus tax.

Agree but if they put the wrong price up and realized after the fact they have to abide by their own cockup so he got a deal of the century if he is telling the truth of course as it does sound quite ”out there” but who knows and really, do we care that much? Some make mistakes and some take advantage of said mistake.

I would have thought that after he bought the $199 reinstatement they would have seen the error of their ways and said this was priced wrongly and if you still want this purchase it will be $599 which is already a $400 savings.

But you tried to help and we will never know as he started to cop an attitude at the end IMHO of course and I wouldn’t spend any more time and effort trying to solve this as he say he got the box and was happy with that.
