Pro Tools 10 crashing at Launch
Hey guys, so after a week or so not using Pro Tools, I finally decided to launch it back up and do some vocal covers.
Well..the minute I hit the Pt icon(exe) it brings up the window that says "Loading Pro Tools..., the process is up in the Task Manager, and then it just expectantly quits. Doesn't get to the plugins, nothing. I've tried restarting my machine multiple times, Reinstalling PT10 from the disk, using the Trasher. I've googled it. And I cannot come up with a solution as to what's happening.. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Sandra Report: SiSoftware Sandra ID Host Name : Workgroup : WORKGROUP Computer Model : MSI MS-7636 Serial Number : To Be Fille*********** Chassis : MSI Desktop Mainboard : MSI H55M-E33(MS-7636) Serial Number : To be fille*********** BIOS : AMI (OEM) V1.10 01/26/2011 Total Memory : 11.87GB DIMM DDR3 Processors Processor : Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 650 @ 3.20GHz (2C 4T 3.33GHz, 2.4GHz IMC, 2x 256kB L2, 4MB L3) Socket/Slot : FC LGA1156 Chipset Memory Controller : MSI Core (Arrandale) DRAM Controller 133MHz, 2x 6GB DIMM DDR3 1.33GHz 128-bit Memory Module(s) Memory Module : Mushkin 991770 4GB DIMM DDR3 PC3-10700U DDR3-1334 (9-9-9-25 4-34-10-5) Memory Module : Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 4GB DIMM DDR3 PC3-12800U DDR3-1600 (9-9-9-24 5-34-10-5) Memory Module : Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 4GB DIMM DDR3 PC3-12800U DDR3-1600 (9-9-9-24 5-34-10-5) Video System Monitor/Panel : ACR G235H (1920x1080, 23.4") Video Adapter : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 (2CU 384SP SM5.0 1GHz, 256kB L2, 1GB 5GHz 128-bit, PCIe 2.00 x16) Graphics Processor OpenCL GP Processor : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 (384SP 2C 1GHz, 256kB L2, 1GB 5GHz 128-bit) Compute Shader Processor : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 (384SP 1GHz, 256kB L2, 1GB 5GHz 128-bit) CUDA GP Processor : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 (384SP 2C 1GHz, 256kB L2, 1GB 5GHz 128-bit) Storage Devices WDC WD5000AAKS-00A7B2 (500.1GB, SATA300, 3.5", 7200rpm, 16MB Cache) : 466GB (C:) HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH22NS50 (7.6GB, SATA150, DVD+-RW, CD-RW, 2MB Cache) : 7GB (D:) Disk (, DVD+-R, CD-R, 512kB Cache) : N/A (H:) Logical Storage Devices Hard Disk (C:) : 466GB (NTFS) @ WDC WD5000AAKS-00A7B2 (500.1GB, SATA300, 3.5", 7200rpm, 16MB Cache) Pro Tools (D:) : 7GB (CDFS) @ HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH22NS50 (7.6GB, SATA150, DVD+-RW, CD-RW, 2MB Cache) Optical Drive (H:) : N/A @ Disk (, DVD+-R, CD-R, 512kB Cache) Peripherals LPC Hub Controller 1 : MSI H55 LPC Interface Controller LPC Legacy Controller 1 : T0 07-23 Audio Device : MSI P55/PM55/3400 High Definition Audio Audio Device : EVGA High Definition Audio Controller Audio Codec : nVidia GeForce 6800 LE [NV40.2] Serial Port(s) : 2 Parallel Port(s) : 1 Disk Controller : MSI P55/PM55/3400 4 port SATA IDE Controller Disk Controller : MSI P55/PM55/3400 2 port SATA IDE Controller Disk Controller : MSI JMB368 IDE Controller USB Controller 1 : MSI P55/PM55/3400 USB2 Enhanced Host Controller USB Controller 2 : MSI P55/PM55/3400 USB2 Enhanced Host Controller SMBus/i2c Controller 1 : Intel ICH SMBus Printers and Faxes Printer : novaPDF Pro Desktop 7 Printer Driver (2400x2400, Colour) Printer : Microsoft XPS Document Writer (600x600, Colour) Fax : Microsoft Shared Fax Driver (200x200) Network Services Network Adapter : Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller (Ethernet, 100Mbps) Operating System Windows System : Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 6.01.7600 Platform Compliance : x64 Windows Experience Index Current System : 5.9 ------------------------------------------------------------ Any help would be greatly appreciated! Re: Pro Tools 10 crashing at Launch
This probably won't solve the immediate issue (but then again, it might!). I see you have partitioned your main drive, and are attempting to use that partition as a recording drive? That won't work. Once you get past THIS issue, you will encounter numerous dae errors because of the lack of a separate, dedicated recording drive. Re-read the system requirements, this is very well stated.
I see one of your RAM sticks is different than the other two. PT doesn't like mis-matched RAM. Those are the things I see. Anybody else? |

Re: Pro Tools 10 crashing at Launch
I would definitely pull the Mushkin RAM, then come back and tell us what happened.

Re: Pro Tools 10 crashing at Launch
Make sure you have right clicked the icon on the desktop and selected "Run As an Administrater" I've seen that have an effect.
It might be faster to reinstall PT. Than to spend forever troubleshooting it.

Quote:
True enough, but be sure to do a COMPLETE uninstall of PT and re-boot before you try to re install PT. In my experience, a complete uninstall, reboot, cclean, and another reboot have fixed more "problems" than I want to admit to.

Re: Pro Tools 10 crashing at Launch
This piece of Cowboy wisdom is spot on.

Re: Pro Tools 10 crashing at Launch
With a re-install in mind, here are some important details. When you UN-install Pro Tools, you MUST also uninstall the HD driver(its an option when you start the Change>Uninstall process). When you install, you should right-click the installer/setup icon and Run as Administrator. Once Pro Tools is installed, right-click on the PT icon and select Properties, then find the tab that lists these 2 items(which you will check):
Always Run as Administrator and Disable Desktop Composition
