Default Storage and Backup policies/types

So what does everyone do?

We are getting into some problems these days, in that we filled 1TB of drive space in the last month. We have been just buying FW drives and loading them up, but there has to be a better solution.

Is anyone using NAS for this (Apple X-Serve)? Or at the end of the show buy a drive put it all on there and store it for later. If you buy a drive, how long do you keep it, or the data on it? Is there a specific software you use to avoid duplicating files (if there is such a thing)? Do you have an IT person that runs this area, or is everyone responsible?

Again I am looking for solutions that people in this area use, specifically for this area. Any ideas would be great!

Looking forward to your comments.

Default Re: Storage and Backup policies/types

hi,

well, i do this:

EXABYTE tape everynight on the work drives. retropect.

when done with a job:

flatten stems to bwf's.

1. copy to big FW
2. burn on to DVD, store here
3. burn on to second DVD, store offsite.

no retrospect

there are more soutions discussed in this thread, yes, even some post people chime in.
