Default Laptop with no firewire

My laptop doesn't have firewire. Only two USB 2's.
I am about to get the 002 in about a month or so and was wandering if I could record using my laptop with an adaptor.
The laptop is new and minimum system requirements is not an issue.

Thanks

Does it have a PCMCIA slot? Is so, this would work:

I believe I have this exact card and had no success getting it to work.
