Default Function Keys Ditched on new MBP - -Thoughts for Mobile PT Editing?

Looks like the rumors are confirmed that Apple has ditched the F1-12 keys on the new MBPs:

Any thoughts on new editing workflows if you're like me and edit on the road use these keys extensively? (apart from carting around a keyboard)

I don't see why that Oled can't also display function keys.
I wouldn't get too worried just yet.

Who knows, the possibility is there to incorporate edit function visual icons into the toolbar itself which would make it easier to learn for beginners.

F keys will undoubtedly be one option in the OLED bar. Which is no different than it is now where either the App or the OS has "control" of the F keys.

If Apple removes those keys and replaces it with a small and straight OLED touch display, it would be awesome. We can do a lot of things with this touch-enabled display, right?

Since PT is pretty hamstrung without a keypad, I always travel with a wired apple keyboard. It's a matter of muscle memory for me - do you use keypad commands for anything? some kinda function key modifier and then hunt and peck for the corresponding numeric key??

I also rely on Keyboard Maestro shortcuts mapped to some of those as well as the 19 (!) function keys. As stated above, I think you can rest easy that Apple will preserve the function keys in the OLED strip. The escape key, however, seems doomed to be remapped.

They say F keys can be displayed on the new touch-strip with a button press.

Functionality will be written into applications to take advantage of this. At the Apple event going on now, there have already been presentations for Adobe Photoshop and Apple's Final Cut Pro showing functionality specific to those applications using the new touch bar.

No reason Avid couldn't also add functionality to Protools in a future update.

Not looking for this Laptop but the fact that you can have special functions mapped to this by the Developer is really nice sounding

The potential workflow enhancements with the new 2X sized force trackpad and a contextual sensitive and user modifiable OLED touchscreen strip are pretty big in my mind. If AVID really worked this in it would all the "touchscreen" I would need. I expect next rev of Logic to really dig in there.

I also like 4 (TB3 capable) USBC ports that could just be anything one wishes.

Lastly - 3.1GB/s SSD speeds with up to 2TB internal! This could completely change the way I do storage today with 4 external ~350MB/s ssd drives and a $600 dock. The thought of using the MBP as a serious control, storage and CPU (no extra kybd, mouse or trackpad) with an external monitor for keeping things easy to read is actually tempting over my nMP....
