Default Using a second computer just to run plugs?

Possible?

I know it's kind of an odd idea and I'm not sure how effective it would actually be, but it just popped into my head. I know VEP will let you do that with VIs but could it work with standard eqs, comps, etc? I have a laptop that I don't really use and was just wondering if I could somehow use it strictly to run plugins for my main machine. Again, I don't really need extra processing power I was just curious.

I'm doing that with VEP5 for Waves and Slate. Plus it's just fun to be geeky with two MBPr's and 4 screens.

I didn't know VEP would actually work with non VI plugins. That's very interesting.

This was added in VEP 5, the older versions did not have bidirectional audio.

VEP behaves similar to rewire, but I don't think it is technically using the official rewire protocol. (The rewire protocol only allows audio from the slave to the master app, and both apps must be on the same computer).

Yes VEP5 is working great for all 32 and 64 bit plugs and VIs. Strangely though TL Space does not show itself in VEP5.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't TL Space a pro tools only plugin? I don't think there has ever been an AU or VST version of it. VEP will only host VST on a pc and AU on a mac.

Yep that seems to be the case - I had seen somewhere that RTAS is supported so I need to check on that or be educated here.

VEP's plugin that connects in the DAW will connect to an RTAS, AXX, AU or VST DAW. This is simply the audio connection between the VEP host program, and the DAW you are using. However, VEP can not host an RTAS plugin internally. It will only host an AU plugin on a mac, or a VST on windows. Almost all 3rd party RTAS and AAX plugins will have a VST and/or AU version that you can use in VEP, but any AVID/digidesign plugins will only be available as RTAS/AAX, which means they can not be offloaded into VEP.
