Mixing Live Concert (Mic Bleed)
The mics on stage for the vocalists for the live concert I'm trying to mix were not unidirectional so you hear lots of the instruments. The vocalists were also off key quite a bit. How can I add Autotune etc if the music is also heard on the mic? I really need to autotune the crap out of it.
I tried a noise gate to try to eliminate some of the music from the mic bleed and it works a bit not enough

Re: Mixing Live Concert (Mic Bleed)
You need to try an audio restauration plugin and see if you can isolate the vocals

Re: Mixing Live Concert (Mic Bleed)
Is that already with Pro Tools 11 or do I need to buy one?

Not anymore, DINR didn't make it into 64 bit world. Try to demo some 3rd party plugins

I read something about phase cancelation by lining up the vocal track and the guitar track, for example. Then inverting the phase of one of the tracks. Will that cancel it out?

Re: Mixing Live Concert (Mic Bleed)
You might have luck but it is very hard because the guitar cab was X distance away from the vocal mic so you need to nail that nudging perfecly and then adjust the volume too, so that it is exactly as loud as the spill in the vocal mic

Re: Mixing Live Concert (Mic Bleed)
Honestly, this is going to be very difficult - unlikely you can get much phase cancellation from the close mics, and a broadband noise reduction plug isn't gonna do much for constantly varying musical spill. Best bet for a semi-automated solution might be Audionamix's ADX Tracks Pro. You're talking a LOT of work to get this to happen - I hope the performance/budget supports it!
best, rich

So the one important question left unanswered is this: is it a problem when you have all faders at unity with zero plugins? If it sounds decent, you could just blend the guitar sound for example from multiple tracks (dont use gate/expander on vox). If it really sounds bad then... lots of work and perhaps not so great results

Re: Mixing Live Concert (Mic Bleed)
Soloed live tracks usually sound like crap, you just need to learn to live with it I guess

Re: Mixing Live Concert (Mic Bleed)
It's not when soloed. The singers were way off and i mean horribly off.
I managed to find a good noise reduction plug in in Adobe Audition. Doesn't get rid of the bleed but reduces it somewhat so the autotune kicks in better
