.. i use VST Connect here from Steinberg .. i have a standard Cable Modem and it seems to work just fine .. the PT Cloud will be the same thing .. NO JAmming online .. that is a few years off yet .. too much latency .. it is a good way to get other people on to your recordings from other cities and countries .. but not jamming LIve with anyone on the internet .. no way ..

To answer your question, I jumped in and was running a session in 1 day. After about a week I felt comfortable with it and learned the keystrokes, etc. It has a Pro Tools keystroke template, but I never used it. You absolutely can record external midi as I do it all the time.

I first started using it with my 8x8x8 I/O and the core audio manager, then sold that stuff and now use it with a new Blackface Apollo.

It's paradigm is a little different from Pro Tools, but not much. Pro Tools is a software version of an old style tape deck stuck to a console. Studio One is a bit more abstract.

There is a free version. However, I'm not sure how crippled it is. It also comes with about 80 gig of samples, loops, soundsets, and yes, the Big Fish Loops are all free.

Ejamming is pretty decent for jamming online.
I do it almost every weekend and at 15 to 18 ms latency it is tolerable.
