Darryl,

I'm coming up from PT 10.3.7 to 11.3. I have an old Mac (OS X 10.9.5) and an 003R. I bypass the analog front end with an RME ADI-8 DS and come in optically to the 003R.

I don't know whether or not the latest PT version will run on my rig.

I don't particularly like the ideas of clouds or annual subscriptions.

What do you think?

Pretty much said the key points. 2019.5 is so much better than anything else since the move to 64 bits.

You can keep a permanent license and the subscription is for updates, yes I know that may be partially semantics, but on the other hand you get to keep the Pro Tools version you have forever.

Am I misunderstanding anything? The old Mac is a mid-2010 Mac Pro, you can drop High Sierra straight on that and get going. But *don’t* upgrade your current macOS install and risk your current working system, do a full clean install on a spare drive/partition. Or if you don't Have space go grab a new/spare drive if needed... e.g. a SSD drive on a PCIe Card if you have a slot spare.

If you need help say on getting started shrinking disk partitions to make space for a new boot partition, or doing the clean macOS install just ask.
