Default 10.3.4 with osx 10.8.5

Hello!

I bought the pro tools express 10.3.4 about 1 1/2 years ago. Now I want to use it on my desktop mac with 10.8.5 operation system. Opening Protools shows me the famous "unable to locate hardware..." window.
If I'm reading the compatibility chart (http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...tibility-Chart) well, this combination doesn't work. Is this the reason for the hardware location problem?
What can I do now? Is there a free upgrade to a higher 10.xx version?

I couldn't find a solution in other threads.

Thank you for helping
and all the best
Florian

Have you installed the driver for your interface?

v10.3.4 was (is?) the last release of Pro Tools Express.
