Interface channels made inactive? ASIO4ALL

Hey everyone,

I'm at a loss, I was trying to install a midi interface today and in the process my audio interface settings somehow changed.
I've lost most of my input channels, i should have 24 but i'm only getting 6, in the I/O window asio4ALL only offers me those 6...

i'm on the Steinberg UR824. i've updated and rinstalled all the drivers. no effect...

asio4all doesn't let me touch or change anything...

please help, i'm at a total loss... always worked perfectly til now.
I have screen shots etc.

audio still works straight to my monitors from the interface, also the steinberg software still detects all channels and audio.

its just asio/protools that seems cranky.

Why are you using the ASIO4ALL device instead of the UR824? Hold the N key at startup and select the UR824.

you are my saviour! i deleted ASIO4ALL (probably just used for so,e other program) and it let me choose the stein berg option and i have 24 channels!!!!!!!!!!

One important detail for new Windows/ Pro Tools users; things will usually work best if you set(in Windows Sound Properties) so that Windows does NOT use your interface as its "Default Playback Device"(set that to use the on-board sound card). There are several ways to get non-PT audio to be heard(happy to provide some options if you need).


#2-glad you uninstalled ASIO4ALL. Its kind of a last-resort utility when all other options fail

Hi Albee,

yeah i think all my system sound goes through the sound interfaces. i've never reliably been able to change that. it was originally set up on some little computer speakers. i remember trying to change it back a couple of times at the start and then gave up - if it aint broke dont fix it has been the law of the DAW world... it seems to be working normally now... somehow. maybve uninstalling ASIo4ALL
