Re: CHOOSING A MIC
World class producers have recorded world renown voice artists with Shure SM57 and SM58 mic's. Daniel Lanois admitted a fondness for SM58 in front of Bono in an interview. Bjork apparently sings into an Sm57 in some instances. These are instances in which the vocal mic contributes to an "effect" certainly, but they are to be considered. The signal paths beyond the Shure mics are important for these artists too.
Rather than buy a $199 large diaphragm condenser, consider the SM57. When your budget becomes more generous, you'll still have a use for the SM57. The $199 condenser might be of little use then. For a bit more money you can have a "real" vocal mic. Look at the thread from the last few days in this segment under "$400 vocal mic". Best wishes, John Caldwell

Re: CHOOSING A MIC
For around $200 you could get a shure sm57 and a shure sm58 then you would be able to record in stereo. That might be a good way to go. I'm recording classical solo guitar and so far it sounds so much better in stereo eith 2 microphones.
Also If you are recording singing you might like the slight difference that one mic might have compared to the other for youre voice.

Re: CHOOSING A MIC
Check out the CAD 95 condenser mic. It sells at a local store for $100, but sounds like a $200 or $300 mic.
It's great for vocals and instruments. ------------------ Chris Droessler www.barnabas.com Barnabas MultiMedia

Re: CHOOSING A MIC
Hey Barnabas! Please give me more info on that CAD 95 condensor mike. Do you think it would be good recording solo classical guitar? Im using SHURE 57 & 58 mikrophones right now.

Re: CHOOSING A MIC
I'm new to this hobby and just purchased the digi 001 and wondered where my focus should be for the quality of vocals I'm recording. I have a Sennheiser E825 microphone plugged directly into the mic jack 1 on the digi box and the recording quality is not good. I am not using plugins yet. So..., should I focus on a better mic, some kind compressor or "in-between equipment", or are there plugins I should become well versed in? It presently sounds as if I used a tape recorder to record vocals over a professional track. Any words of wisdom for ol Johnny?
