Default Disk allocation

I'm workin with a single g5...digi 002...osX panther...and an external firewire HD that is not an audio playback volume...this pop up has been showing up when I try to open a session directly from the external HD...''the original disk allocation for this session cannot be used. One or more drives cannot be found or are invalid for this session. Disk allocation has been modified. Would u like to verify the new disk allocation?''...I select yes and when it attempts to re locate the audio files it says the HD is not audio playback volume...I understand pro tools often misplaces audio files or send them into the wrong folders, but in order to complete my beat packages I need to solve the issue of re directing the files...any input is appreciated

I read something very similar to the problem you're experiencing in this forum about a month ago. If the DUC archives all it's forums, I'm sure you will be able to view all the comments and maybe find a solution.

Personally, I would never record anything directly to an external HD if I have available internal space. I use my external HD strictly for transporting sessions to other studios and for backup - no problems so far (knock on wood). Although I haven't worked with beat packages so I don't know if my comment is valid.

Yeah we don't plan on using the external drives much more....I tried to search the pro tools le for mac database but I couldn't locate the topic....I searched ''audio playback volume and disk allocation'' both together and separately...I'm gonna attempt to contact digi tomorrow and see if a tech specialist can walk us thru locating our missing files...thanks
