Digital Performer 9.01 is getting most of my love these days. And it's available for Windows as well as Mac. The only bummer with DP is the Motunation forum isn't very welcoming to newcomers or those that criticize DP. It's no DUC for sure.

It's when you talk favorably of Pro Tools and Avid that you're in trouble around here.

Re: DP - I try to get the most of both DP and PT but these days I end up doing my most complex MIDI work in DP and everything else is done in PT. One of DP's biggest strengths (chunks) sometimes also become a real drag, large projects (with lots of large chunks) can make DP really slow, and unstable.

Must admit I haven't seen that (yet). Once I start a piece I finish it in whatever daw it started in. And I do love the MIDI implementation in DP wayyy better than PT's.

Something I forgot to mention about DP for those that have taken a look at it and were turned off by the Consolidated window - you do NOT have to use it. I just have the control panel across the top with the little window that has the buttons for selecting the various windows next to it and the tools window next to that, the channel strip on the left side of the screen, the sequence editor open in the biggest part of the screen. Various other windows I pop open as I need them. I do have the mixer open behind the sequence editor. Making liberal use of shortcuts really helps, as does using window sets.

If Avid just would listen to me it would make an HD upgrade $99 and drop in all the plugin bundle as perpetual licenses.
Only this simple step would brighten up the mood on the street and probably bring more cash than its current plan of $600. It would also raise a bit its stock as a light optimism's reflection.
But I'm sure that it doesn't listen to a way smarter people than me. So its indeed just my 2 cent.
Sorry for quoting myself but unfortunately I was right.
The Avid stock demolished this week to its ever lowest point: $4.47 or about 30% in one week.
Maybe its time to reconsider the marketing policy, Avid?

Interesting how Avid stock seems to run opposite of what the Dow Industrials run which have been near or surpassed all time highs the last three days of the week. I know they're different exchanges but still I would think they would track each other to a certain extent.

I think Avid stock is a classic example of the market tendency. During last few years it went down, beating its lowest value point by the lower one. A classic bearish behavior pointing to some serious revenue and earning problems.
But actually it even surprised me when it lost 1/3 of its cost in just one week! I can feel the stock holders pain.

Stockholders' pain can mean only one thing. Board needs to act. And you know what that means...

Sad to say, this could mean a move to nothing but software rental.

When Avid was mostly in the hardware business, they had by far the cheapest software upgrades in the industry a-la-Apple yet people whined endlessly on the DUC. That business model needed to change as Avid began losing money because native performance caught up in both audio and video.

Does this have any meaning or is it another "stock shock" thing?
