Yes, I started a new session and I dragged the MP3 over in pro-tools pushed play and it still only plays out the left hear!

I defaulted all the settings!

Cables and headphones: (Sony)Headphones. Regular mic (Cable)
But are the headphones working right? Cables on those things fail all the time.
Do you have the PT11 demo session and if so have you tried playing it and does it sound okay (sound out of both left and right channels?

Don't waste time on that, you already have got beyond needing to do that.

So the very simple question you should work on answering is if you plug the headphones into something entirely different do that work OK in both ears?

Have to disagree with you. The demo session will at least point out that all the hardware part is working or not. At this point we don't know that it does. She needs a known working benchmark PT session.

MusicGirl:
The PT11 demo session is available for download from your Avid user account.

She just created a new session, dragged an audio file to it and had the same problem. That is the test. Now is it a better idea to repeat that with a demo session or to unplug the headphones and uh do something as difficult as plug them into a mp3 player/CD player/home HIFi/anything else just to check they actually work.

If they don't well it is obvious, if they do then likely the interface is faulty and contact Focusrite support.

Tough to help out when she won't tell us what interface she is using.

My last attempt. View these videos.

The reason I keep mentioning to use the demo session is it's a known quantity with routing and such and apparently the op doesn't know a heck of a lot about what she's doing with PT. She may be having routing issues or just not plain understand things like the rest of us do. It's a simple download and would be worth the time.

Where'd you see anything about Focusrite? I don't recall seeing that here. We don't know all that much about her system.

Have you used the headphones anywhere else lately? Do they work OK?
I would try using a separate headphone to listen with also. Make sure the plug is pushed in all the way to the jack. If it is not, It could cause what you are describing.

She said, "I have a Focusrite Audio Interface". If so, she should be using their software called "MixControl". Their software can place a mic on a channel and have it come out of the headphone jack without even having Pro Tools on. One of the videos I selected shows exactly how to do that. There is another one that explains why you might hear the mic on only the next channel.

Default Only hearing music out of the left headphones

And since there appears to be no playback at all happening in the right earphone, the *first* thing to do is simply check if the headphone/cable/connector seem OK. Test them elsewhere.
