Default Pro Tools TDM 6.4cs8 Update

Pro Tools 6.4cs8 for Pro Tools|HD & Pro Tools|HD Accel systems is now available for download from the CS Index page:

http://www.digidesign.com/download/cs/

Linked at the top of the Support->Downloads section under Featured Downloads.
These updates are recommended for all HD users with Pro Tools 6.4 TDM software, in addition to the separate 6.4cs6 Plug-In Update available from the same index page.

In addition to all previous fixes from 6.4cs1 through cs7, these 6.4cs8 releases include these fixes:

Pro Tools TDM 6.4cs8 for Mac OS X adds the following:

Fixed: When Using Pro Tools in +12 dB Fader Gain Mode, the Level on Bus Paths or Hardware Outputs Could Be Incorrectly Increased by 6 dB (Item #51907)
  • Reconfiguring the mixer on a large session where the surround mixer is spread out over multiple DSPs could result in buss paths or hardware outputs increasing in level by 6 db. In this state, Master faders on these paths would not work. Prior to this fix, the only workaround was to "save session copy" with +6 db selected.
Fixed: Meters can display incorrectly in post-fader meter mode in a +12 dB session (Item #50256)
  • When using Pro Tools in post-fader meter mode in a +12 dB session, the meter level will start to decrease with a full code signal if the fader gain is more than +10 dB. While this issue also affected the stereo mixer on 6.4, only the surround mixers have been fixed with this CPR.
Please see the individual download pages for the complete list of included fixes.

That is correct, the Pro Tools application itself is not updated if you had previously installed cs7.
From the download page and the Read Me:
Quote:
This update installs the following files:

Pro Tools (v6.4cs7)
DAE (v6.4cs7)
DigiStreamManager (v6.4cs4)*
ProControl (v6.4cs4)
Digidesign StreamManager Swapper (v6.4cs4)
Surround Mixer (v6.4cs8)
Surround Dithered Mixer (v6.4cs8)

I checked the cs update page and it specifies for Mac OS 10.3.2 or 10.3.4. Since I am running 10.3.3, does this mean I do not the update or does it mean 10.3.2 thru 10.3.4?

Hi,

This is from the compatibility documents:

10.3.3 has not been fully tested with Pro Tools, will not be further tested, and is not recommended

I hope this clears things up for you you can find this information here:

In other words--update your OS to 10.3.4 and then update PT to this latest release. (Be sure not to update your OS to 10.3.5 because that is not yet supported.)

I have already (foolishly it seems) done the Mac OS update to 10.3.5 and I have since experienced some Firewire drive issues. In my case it wasn't a Pro Tools specific problem but a basic system issue... certain firewire drives consistently un-mounted themselves for no apparent reason. I was left with the Mac OS error message about dissconnecing firewire drives withpout first properly unmounting them. Is this what Digidesign refers to in their warning about 10.3.5?

What is the best way to restore my system to 10.3.4? Can I just run the 10.3.4 updater on top of the 10.3.5 system? Or do I have to do a fresh install?

Any thoughts swould be greatly appreciated!

maxx
