Motu 8 Pre/Presonus Digimax FS
I am trying to help a friend who has a Motu 8 Pre and a DigiMax FS 8 channel mic pre that as ADAT I/O so he can have a total of 16 Mic Preamps in to Protools 10.
I have not been able to get the Motu 8 Pre to be the master clock no matter what I do. I can get the Motu 8 Pre to Slave to the Digimax FS as the master clock, and both clocks on both units appear to be clocked properly to whatever sample rate I choose on the Digimax. That being said, not matte what I choose as the sample rate on the Digimax, which the Motu Seems to slave to, in Prootools Session it shows 48k, regardless of what I choose on the units. The same goes for Motu's Audio Setup Software the comes with the 8 pre. I simply cannot figure out how to get both the Motu 8 Pre and the Digimax FS and Protoosl to all register the same sample rate.

Re: Motu 8 Pre/Presonus Digimax FS
I have since figured this out, so anybody in the future if you were to have this problem, and I doubt it because were really talking about old technology, but if you were to have this problem, there's a couple things you need to know. The manual says that you don't need have both the ADAT IN and OUT connected to be able to clock to it. OK, the manuals wrong, yes you do. Also the main problem here, you cannot have the 8pre, be the default input and output for OSX on your Mac. You must assign other methods to access your computers Input and Output signals. That was another issue that contributed to the clocking/digital noise problem.
All working fine, especially if you love listening to all of your recordings sound like you have a blanket over the monitors. It has been so long since I've dealt with the native world, and especially older outdated converters, that I truly appreciate where I'm at today. We truly have come a very long way in conversion technology!
